New Name, New Friends!

These are exciting times as Bayou, Pelican and Silver Waters Councils
draw closer to combining forces -- with more girls, more activities,
and more opportunities for fun and growth!

The Council Realignment Committee (CRC) has reviewed the many
suggestions submitted by the memberships, and we are proud to
announce that we now have a new name. As of January 1, 2008, we
will be known as Girl Scouts of Louisiana - Pines to the Gulf.

The CRC has also decided that Lafayette will be the operational
Headquarters for Girl Scouts of Louisiana - Pines to the Gulf, and that strong
regional offices will continue to serve the needs of Girl Scouts and
volunteers in Alexandria, Monroe and Shreveport.

CRC members rolled-up their sleeves on Saturday, August 25, and
approved a draft of the council's new by-laws. Also, the nationwide
search is on for a new CEO; and motivated individuals are being sought to
serve on the council's new board starting January 1.

These positive developments will help move us forward as we continue
to work toward our goal of becoming a high-capacity council that serves over
10,000 girls and over 3,000 adult volunteers in 42 parishes!

While the geographic area of the council is changing, the mission to
build girls of courage, confidence and character is unwavering.
Council volunteers and staff remain fully committed to providing
relevant and quality program opportunities for girls, and look
forward to bringing the strengths of Bayou, Pelican and Silver Waters
Councils together for their benefits.
